Mother’s Day Teas, 2026<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Sophia Coxe Memorial Foundation recently held its annual Mother’s Day teas with a French-themed brunch on May 9th and 10th.<\/div>\n

Chef Tony O presented a special menu, which was well-received by all the guests in attendance.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
A special thanks to Hazleton Area Garden Club member Chris G who provided floral arrangements and also our volunteers who helped make this a special weekend.<\/div>\n

Pysanky Egg Decorating Class, 2026<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, March 15th, the Sophia Coxe Memorial Foundation and Education Center hosted an authentic Ukrainian Pysanky egg decorating class inside the Historic Coxe House (circa 1869), located in Drifton, PA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This old-world traditional class was given by our long-time instructors, the mother-daughter duo of Margie Bogash and Kristen Bogash Moy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Refreshments, served by our in-house Chef, Tony O., consisted of freshly brewed raspberry-infused tea, egg salad croissants, Irish soda bread cookies, blueberry scones, and signature chocolate chip cookies — all homemade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the Pysanky eggs were finished and beautifully decorated and taken home by our guests to add to seasonal festivities. A wonderful time was had by all.<\/p>\n\n\n

Our Gift Shop was also open, featuring one-of-a-kind pieces from the past, including works of art, jewelry, and odds and ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come and experience our French cuisine at the Coxe House during out upcoming Mothers’ Day brunch (May 9-10), from 2-4 p.m. both days. The cost is $45\/person and reservations are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quilt of Valor Presented to Veteran CEO & President of Sophia Coxe Foundation & Education Center for Military Service, 2024<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, July 21st, 2024, the Sophia Coxe Foundation & Education Center acted as a backdrop in recognition of the heroic military achievements and service of its CEO and President, Mr. Bryan Dunnigan. A Quilt of Valor was presented to him by the Hazleton Area Chapter of the national Quilts of Valor program that day.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A Quilt of Valor is presented to service members and veterans who have been touched by war, thanking them for their service, sacrifice, and valor in their service to the nation.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Bryan was nominated for the quilt in recognition of his service in both the US Navy during his two tours of Vietnam, as well as his service in the US Army, PA National Guard during the Cold War. Along with a lengthy list of accomplishments and contributions during his service, Bryan Dunnigan was honorably discharged from the US Army March 12, 1998 after a total of 14 years in the military.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Along with his active involvement and leadership for local VFW posts and veteran organizations, Bryan has been an avid history preservationist and Civil War living historian. Bryan was a former resident and board member of Eckley Miners\u2019 Village Museum, and went on to found the Sophia Coxe Memorial Foundation and Education Center in 2014, where he continues to lead educational programs and events, and is the blacksmithing instructor.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
Bryan noted that he was grateful to receive his quilt on behalf of his more than 58,000 brothers and sisters in service who never returned home from the Vietnam War.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Bryan\u2019s Quilt of Valor was pieces by Chancey Wesner, quilted by Tammy Dean, and bound by Marie Shulenski, all members of the Cranberry Quilt Guild. During his presentation, Bryan was surrounded by his loved ones, including his sons and grandchildren, as well as friends. Food for the ceremony was provided by Chef Tony O.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Women in American History Award<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n

The Daughters of the American Revolution Tunkhannock Chapter recently posthumously presented the \u201cWomen in American History\u201d award to Sophia Georgiana Fisher Coxe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known as \u201cThe Angel of the Anthracite,\u201d Sophia was acknowledged for her outstanding altruistic efforts. Bryan Dunnigan, President of the Sophia Coxe Memorial Foundation and Education Center accepted the award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
